The Learning Support Department at EIS is a place where students with ‘brain diversity’ can blossom and strive to achieve in the best learning environment. We believe in shifting the focus from what disabilities students have to the assets they already own in the different ways of thinking and learning. Through inclusive learning environments, we motivate our students to learn in the least restrictive way. Our teaching interventions address what is unique and positive about each individual student while reinforcing the students’ cognitive, emotional, social, and physical strengths. We have established appropriate assessments giving them flexible approaches to reach high levels of performance using their unique patterns of learning. Through the use of assistive technology, teachers help students to acquire information and express knowledge. Special educators and mainstream teachers establish a positive rapport with their students and act as role models who champion their cause. We are less when we don’t include everybody.
